Optimal size of images and videos - 2016

Social media webpage

If you're trying to share something in social media first you're have to check what's the optimal size of images for that specific site.

The guys at Speadfast made an infographic based on the trends and rules of 2016. You should definately save it.

Just like we wrote about the infographic of 2015, most of the changes was made by Facebook. On other social media surfaces the changes are almost negligible.

Why is it important to know the correct sizes?

We want to show our products and services to our customers just as we imagined them. First of all, before shooting any kind of photos or videos whe should plan how and where we want to use them. There are notable differences between the aspect ratios in social media, so if you're trying to post a 16:9 picture to a box that only supports 4:3 ratio, you'll probably have to cut some parts of your picture, you'll even loose some important parts.

To achieve the best possible quality, upload .png pictures.

While making ads you should watch out that Facebook still has a rule of 20% text-to-picture ratio ( there was some rumors about cancelling but it didn't happen yet )

Social media sites tend to put button(s), page title, profile picture on header pictures, make sure you choose/make pictures according to this.

Be aware! This is a reference only for the actual sizes and requirements. During a year they tend to change these sizes so after making an image/video ready to upload check the current requirements in terms of size.
